Sea Isle City Beach Replenishment Update 4/15

NEWS RELEASE APRIL 12, 2010

SEA ISLE CITY, NJ

Beach Replenishment to Begin in Sea Isle City

SEA ISLE CITY - Sea Isle City and Avalon are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Great Lakes Dredge and Dock to start replenishment of beaches at the south end of Sea Isle and the north end of Avalon, under the joint venture contract executed by both communities with Great Lakes last month. Sea Isle City will receive approximately 700,000 cubic yards of sand that will be placed on the beaches from 73rd Street to 94th Street.

Currently, Great Lakes Dredge and Dock is performing work in Ocean City and is scheduled to mobilize the dredging operations to Townsend's Inlet in late April or early May. The contract documents specify that all beach fill work for both Sea Isle City and Avalon must be completed prior to the July 4th weekend. As of now, it is unknown which community will be the first to receive the beach fill when the contractor mobilizes to Townsend's Inlet. Great Lakes has indicated that they will defer the decision as to where to start the project to Sea Isle and Avalon. Given this, it is likely a coin flip will take place by the week of April 19 to determine which town goes first.

When the project commences, approximately three to four city blocks will be closed at any one time. Beaches immediately to the north and south of the fill area will remain open to the public during the project. The City will do everything possible to minimize any disruption caused by the work. Updates on the status of the project will be provided on the Sea Isle City website and via E-News Briefs. To register for the City’s E-News Briefs, please go to the City’s website at www.seaislecitynj.us and click on the link “Receive City News” at the top of the home page.

For more information, please contact George Savastano, Business Administrator, at (609) 263-4461 x223.
